Nvidia will provide up to $105 billion in financing to support a new OpenAI artificial intelligence data center in Pike County, Ohio, according to a securities filing provided in the source material. The project is expected to initially support 4.25 gigawatts of computing capacity, with the potential to expand by another 3.75 gigawatts.

Nvidia will provide up to $105 billion in financing for a new artificial intelligence data center being developed for OpenAI in Ohio, as the chipmaker expands its role in financing the infrastructure required for the rapidly growing AI industry.

The financing will support an initial 4.25 gigawatts of computing capacity, with an option to add another 3.75 gigawatts. Nvidia is expected to provide the computing technology, with the capacity scheduled to come online in phases beginning in 2028.

SB Energy will build and operate the data center at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, under a 20-year lease to OpenAI. OpenAI has a stake in SB Energy, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was an early investor in the company.

The project is part of a broader push to expand computing infrastructure as AI companies seek access to the advanced chips and data-center capacity needed to develop and operate increasingly sophisticated models.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the arrangement would provide long-term infrastructure for Nvidia computing systems and allow OpenAI to upgrade the facilities as newer generations of technology become available.

Nvidia had previously been reported to be considering a much larger financing backstop of up to $250 billion for OpenAI's planned data-center expansion in Ohio. The latest arrangement is smaller than that figure and follows reports that the proposed guarantee would be reduced to less than $120 billion.

Nvidia is also working with six major asset managers on financing platforms intended to deploy up to $500 billion in third-party capital for data-center projects.

Under the Ohio project, SB Energy and SoftBank will develop power sources supporting up to 10 gigawatts of energy and invest at least $4.2 billion in regional grid infrastructure. Nvidia will separately invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy.

OpenAI said the project is expected to support 35,000 construction jobs through 2032 and create 2,500 long-term positions.

The scale of Nvidia's financing commitment highlights the enormous capital requirements behind the expansion of AI computing infrastructure, while also increasing the chipmaker's financial involvement in the ecosystem built around demand for its processors.
