Porsche has signed a five-year strategic agreement worth €1.25 billion ($1.46 billion) with Tata Consultancy Services to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence across its business. As part of the broader agreement, TCS will acquire Porsche's management and IT consulting subsidiary, MHP, for €320 million, subject to regulatory approvals.
Porsche has agreed to a five-year strategic partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) worth €1.25 billion ($1.46 billion) as the German sports-car manufacturer expands its use of artificial intelligence across its operations.
Under the agreement, TCS will establish a dedicated AI Mobility Centre of Excellence for Porsche, focusing on the deployment of AI across engineering, manufacturing, operations and customer experience.
The partnership is being accompanied by TCS's planned acquisition of MHP Management- und IT-Beratung GmbH, Porsche's Germany-based management and IT consulting subsidiary. TCS will acquire 100% of MHP for an enterprise value of €320 million. The transaction remains subject to regulatory and competition approvals and is expected to close in the coming months.
MHP has more than 4,500 employees worldwide and specializes in management and IT consulting, including artificial intelligence, business transformation, manufacturing digitalization, SAP transformation and connected and software defined mobility. Following the acquisition, MHP is expected to retain its brand and operate as an independent consultancy within the TCS group.
Porsche said the transaction forms part of its “Sportwagenschmiede 35” strategy, which is focused on sharpening the company's focus on its core business. The automaker said its partnership with TCS will combine Porsche's automotive expertise with TCS's digital technology and AI capabilities.
For TCS, the agreement expands its presence in the German market and the wider European automotive and industrial sectors. The company said MHP's automotive and industrial consulting expertise will complement its global technology, engineering and AI capabilities.
TCS Chief Executive and Managing Director K. Krithivasan said the partnership would enable the companies to scale AI applications across Porsche's value chain, while Porsche Chairman Michael Leiters said the arrangement would support innovation, efficiency and competitiveness as the automotive industry becomes increasingly software- and data-driven.
The agreement comes as automakers and technology companies increase investment in artificial intelligence, software and digital systems. For Porsche, the deal combines a strategic technology partnership with the transfer of a non-core consulting business to a global IT services company.
The acquisition of MHP and the strategic partnership are separate elements of the broader arrangement and remain subject to the required regulatory approvals before completion.
